RESEARCH AND HIGHER EDUCATION
The Toni Weber Foundation, in collaboration with the International network of jurists and law practitioners “Communion and Law”, promoted the “Center for Political and Human Rights Research” (PHR). Academically established by the Sophia University Institute in 2018, it is a Center for advanced studies that implements, promotes and supports research and higher education in political, legal and social sciences. Human relationships are at the center of interest, studied through the plurality of cultures and disciplines, opening up to the complexity of contemporary reality.
The PHR arises as a result of years of studies on the principle of fraternity in its social and public dimension, carried out in several universities around the world, in close contact with initiatives conducted by numerous subjects in the civil society. Sophia embraces this wealth of studies and experience and dedicates to the principle of fraternity specific philosophical, political and juridical formative courses as well as permanent research projects.
The PHR promotes international cooperation in scientific research, favoring intercultural projects and the increasing inclusion of young people in research and high professional qualification. It opens spaces for dialogue and offers consultancy for the construction of new academic training courses.
PHR AND SOCIAL INVOLVEMENT
It develops forms of cooperation with social, economic, institutional, political, religious subjects who engage in the field of peace and the protection of human rights, fraternal politics, responsible economy, the enhancement of people and their resources. Together with these subjects, it works to design concrete forms of fraternity that contribute to creating the “human family”, to which the United Nations’ “Universal Declaration of Human Rights” refers (cf. Preamble and art. 1) . To this end, it proposes to contribute to the development of public policies and economic, social and cultural projects.
