"The spirit of Fraternity in politics as the key to European and global unity."

Lingua: Italiano
Abstract: On November 9, 2001, Chiara Lubich speaks at the conference “1000 cities for Europe”, participated by over 700 mayors and local administrators from the whole continent. The meeting is the chance to propose the category of fraternity as the key element to interpret european history: the christian roots, the early signs of the construction of the political union and the first step of economical cooperation. However, fraternity is presented as “something more” than this, it is shown as the possibility to create authentic relationships among people, cities and nations, the chance to design projects of “good politics”. For the first time, Chiara Lubich refers to the political profession as the “love of loves”, the one that, when fully lived, allows all other urban realities and all other subjects of society to express to the fullest their character and to respond to the needs of the community.
